Storing and Grinding Your Coffee
On average, roasted coffees taste noticeably stale between 12-14 days after roasting. It’s even worse for grinding: 11 minutes! Grinding beans vastly increases the number of flavor-bearing surfaces, and hence oxidation. This is why you should always grind your own beans, and as close as possible to your brewing time.
Confused about the dizzying galaxy of grinders, or what to do with your beans post-purchase? Here we’ll take a quick tour of the topic.
Learn More About Roast Levels
Coffee-roasting levels are notoriously vague and slippery. One person's "medium blond" is another's "medium dark." What's a poor roaster to do?
Well, one thing is to use standard roasting language and categories, which for some reason roasters seem hesitant to do. So that's what you'll find in this guide, along with their associated temperatures. Once you identify what you believe is your usual preference, order it using our drop-down menu on a product page. If it's not exactly what you want, revise it the next time.
